The Alexander Technique is far reaching in its effects, yet simple
in principle and can be learnt by anyone. The Technique is hugely
empowering and practical.
As we grow up we naturally learn about posture, movement and co-ordination
but we also accumulate bad habits along the way – often unwittingly.
If these habits continue in our daily lives they can cause undue pain,
strain and fatigue.
Alexander lessons enable us to become aware of what we do to ourselves,
often unconsciously, and as a result may release excessive tension
and reduce symptoms of stress, ease pain and discomfort. Many ailments
and pains can be alleviated. The Technique may enhance the performance
of already acquired skills and assist in the learning of new skills.
It is widely used by musicians, actors, dancers, people participating
in sports and anyone who wishes to take more responsibility for their
own wellbeing.
One-to-one sessions lasting 40 minutes are called lessons because
the Technique is neither a form of treatment, nor does it claim to
cure specific conditions, but is a foundation for personal education
and self-care. It is an enriching skill which can be woven into our
daily and frequently chaotic lives – whatever we do.
